Two Canadian mystery authors are teaming up for an evening of readings and discussion at the McGill branch of Burnaby Public Library.

It's happening on Thursday, Nov. 7 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the library, 4595 Albert St.

The evening brings together Miriam Clavir and Glynis Whiting.

A press release notes that  Clavir's first novel, Insinuendo: Murder in the Museum, is set in the Museum of Anthropology at the University of British Columbia. In her first job as an artifacts conservator, Berry Cates investigates a visiting expert's death in her lab - and finds the police investigation pointing her way.

Whiting's first novel, A Nose for Death, features chemist and food designer Dr. Joan "Nosey" Parker, who returns to her hometown for a high school reunion. When a former classmate is found stabbed to death in his motel room, Joan tops the list of suspects - and her celebrate ability to identify scents will either clear her name or lead to her own death.

The discussion night is free, but books will be available to purchase (cash only). You must register in advance since space is limited.

Call 604-299-8955 or see www.bpl.bc.ca/events/mcgill, or stop by the library to register in person.

Also for art lovers, a Burnaby-based association is holding the ninth annual Inclusion Art Show on Oct. 29 at Vancouver's Heritage Hall.

The community living organization posAbilities holds the show to celebrate the work of B.C. artists with developmental disabilities.

"It gives people the opportunity to see what kind of art we can do," photographer Ken McLean said in a press release.

"To know that somebody else can appreciate my work too feels really good," added painter and potter Amy Chan.

The show includes more than 500 pieces of art created by about 200 artists in a variety of media - pottery, painting, photography, glasswork, jewelry, textiles and hand-drawn greeting cards.

This year's work is channeling the spirit of the '60s with a Feelin' Groovy theme.

It's happening on Tuesday, Oct. 29 from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Vancouver Heritage Hall, 3102 Main St.

For more about posAbilities, check out their website at www.posAbilities.ca. The group's offices are at 240-4664 Lougheed Hwy. in Burnaby.

Regular readers may remember recent mentions of Kevin Takahide Lee, the Burnaby resident who has started up a choir to help people practise English language skills.

The choir is open to everyone aged 13 and up, with special focus on those who want to practise English - be they newcomers, longtime residents from various cultural communities, seniors or anyone else.

The multicultural, multigenerational choir is meeting at the Nikkei National Museum and Cultural Centre.

At last writing, rehearsal time hadn't been firmed up, but it now has - it's Saturdays from 3:45 to 4:45 in Room 210 at the Nikkei Centre.

For more, check out Kevin Lee's website at www.miusc.ca.
