Opera fans, take note: One of the most beloved operas of all time is coming to the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts this month.

Burnaby Lyric Opera is bringing Giacomo Puccini’s La Bohèm e to the stage Feb. 20 to 27.

Stage director Richard Berg and music director Angus Kellett will lead a cast of young and emerging talent in the timeless tale of love and heartbreak that features some of Puccini’s most memorable music.

The story, for those who aren’t already familiar with it, centres around the poor seamstress Mimi and her poet lover Rodolfo, who live in a Parisian garrett amidst a group of bohemian friends including the painter Marcello and his lover, Musetta.

“There is constant flirtatious behaviour and jealousy amid an underlying atmosphere of foreboding,” a synopsis notes.

(Spoiler alert: Mimi dies.)

The show is onstage Feb. 20, 25 and 27 at 8 p.m., with 2 p.m. matinees on Feb. 22 and 24.

Tickets are $35 regular, $30 for students/seniors or $15 for matinees.

Check out www.burnabylyricopera.org for more, or buy tickets through tickets.shadboltcentre.com or 604-205-3000.

Designed for participants aged 16 and up, it invites you to “take the time to look closely as you draw and allow yourself the freedom to develop luxurious lines, delicate patterns and deep dark tones,” as a gallery writeup says.

See www.burnabyartgallery.ca and check out the winter calendar of events for details.
