Mile high comedy coming to Burnaby

Arts Club on Tour production at Shadbolt Centre in October
Arts Club on Tour, Boeing Boeing
Turbulence: Colleen Wheeler, Kimberley Sustad and Moya O'Connell in the original February 2013 Arts Club production of Boeing Boeing. The comedy is now on tour, coming to the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts in October.

It's the most performed French play in the world, and its original run in Paris lasted 19 years.

Now the classic farce about a swinging bachelor and his slightly turbulent life is coming to the Shadbolt Centre stage as part of the Arts Club on Tour series.

Boeing-Boeing is on stage at the Shadbolt Oct. 10 and 11 at 8 p.m.. The comedy tells the story of Bernard (Kevin Kruchkywich), a successful architect in 1960s Paris, and his success with the ladies - especially the three air hostesses who jet in and out of his bachelor pad: Gloria (Melissa Oei), Gabriella (Luisa Jojic) and Gretchen (Colleen Wheeler).

When Boeing introduces a faster jet, Bernard's precise romantic timetable goes off-course.

Asked about Boeing-Boeing's continuing popularity, director David Mackay said, "The simple answer is that the structure of this farce puts the characters in comic situations that remain ludicrously funny today. For all our incredible social and technological advancements made over the past 50 years, a good farce can exemplify that quality in human nature that for every step forward there's a banana peel to take us two steps back."

Boeing-Boeing was written by the Swiss-born Marc Camoletti, whose works have been translated into 18 languages and produced in 55 countries.

The Arts Club on Tour production also stars Bonnie Panych and Andrew McNee.

After its Burnaby show, the production moves on to Maple Ridge, Mission, Surrey, Coquitlam, Chilliwack, Vernon and Nelson.
