Poetry in the Park is back.

The outdoor poetry reading series is making a return after its COVID-related hiatus in 2020.

This summer, poetry lovers can turn out every Saturday on the Massey Theatre lawn to listen to poetry readings under the big tree.

Youth and adults are invited to bring a chair, umbrella and sunscreen to enjoy the poets between 3 and 4:30 p.m.

The series kicks off this weekend, July 10, and runs every Saturday until Aug. 21.

This weekend’s event is hosted by Aidan Chafe and features poet Jeremy Stewart.

Stewart won the 2014 Robert Kroetsch Award for Innovative Poetry for Hidden City (Invisible Publishing). His experimental novel In Singing, He Composed a Song is forthcoming from the University of Calgary Press in September. He’s also the author of (flood basement, which was published by Caitlin Press in 2009.

Stewart is currently a PhD student in English literature at Lancaster University, U.K., and lives with his partner and their children in White Rock.

Poetry in the Park is organized and run through the Royal Literary Arts Society, in partnership with the Arts Council of New Westminster, the City of New Westminster and Massey Theatre.

The Poetry in the Park readings are part of Massey Theatre’s Open Space Saturdays events.
