Could your kids use a little extra reading practice over the summer?
The Burnaby Public Library offers a Reading Buddies program pairing teens and children up for reading practice on five Thursdays starting July 5.
Children in grades 2, 3 or 4 meet with their teen buddy from 1:15 to 2 p.m. at the Metrotown branch (6100 Willingdon Ave.) to get extra reading practice and have some fun.
The program is free, but space is limited, so register ahead of time at the library, or call 604-436-5420 for more information.
LEGO FUN AT LIBRARIES
Tired of stepping on LEGO pieces all over your living room? Head out to the Burnaby Public Library’s LEGO clubs and make a mess somewhere else for a change.
OK, well, try not to make a mess – but you can certainly enjoy the library’s extensive LEGO collection with the small folks in your house.
The Bob Prittie (Metrotown) branch at 6100 Willingdon Ave. hosts LEGO club on Tuesdays through the summer, from July 3 to Aug. 21. Between 2 and 4 p.m., kids aged five to 12 can drop in to play. Caregivers must accompany children under 10.
The McGill branch at 4595 Albert St. also offers LEGO club on Tuesdays, July 10 through Aug. 28. From 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., children aged four and up can drop in to play. Caregivers must accompany kids under 10.
No registration is needed for any of the sessions, but drop in early. Check out www.bpl.bc.ca/events for more details.
FAMILY STORYTIME
Make storytime part of your family routine this summer.
The Burnaby Public Library’s Metrotown branch is offering Friday Night Stories, aimed at kids aged four to eight, with their caregiver. Every week will feature stories from around the world, and kids will also make something to take home. You don’t need to sign up ahead, but space is limited, so arrive early. All family members are welcome for the sessions, which run from 7 to 8 p.m. on Fridays from July 6 to Aug. 3.
Or, if weekends work better for your family, you can stop in for family storytimes from 11 to 11:45 a.m. on Saturdays from July 7 to Aug. 11. It’s for kids of all ages with their caregivers.
You don’t have to register for any of the sessions, but space is limited, so stop in early. Call 604-436-5420 or see www.bpl.bc.ca/events for more information.
