Sizzling steps: The Burnaby-based Grupo America steps into the spotlight for the 30th instalment of Dances for a Small Stage, running Feb. 13 to 15.

World champion salsa dancers from Burnaby will be in the spotlight at the next Dances for a Small Stage.

The popular dance series, which offers up contemporary dance in a cabaret setting, is marking its 30th instalment since its inception in 2002.

An eclectic, Valentine's-themed night is onstage at Vancouver's Ukrainian Centre Feb. 13 to 15.

In the lineup for this outing is Grupo America, the Burnaby-based salsa group that won the World Cuban Salsa Championship in Miami in 2007, 2008, 2012 and 2013.

"Grupo America pushes stylistic boundaries by presenting a potpourri of dances from every corner of the Americas," a press release notes. "The show combines sizzling modern routines with beautiful traditional numbers that will take your breath away."

The evening's tribute to Valentine's Day will take the form of John Murphy MC'ing as the Tin Man.

"He's written his own politically incorrect, rather scandalous script that will usher audiences through one of our most varied and high-profile line-ups ever," said Julie-anne Saroyan, artistic producer of MovEnt, who is co-curating the show with Karissa Barry.

Grupo America will be joined by an array of other talents, including internationally renowned choreographers Peter Chu and Stacey Tookey, who will each perform a solo work.

Actors Patti Allan and James Fagan Tait will be performing original Noam Gagnon choreography, Jim Hibbard will tap dance, and works by Rob Kitsos, Karissa Barry, Kirsten Wicklund, Linda Fitzner, Corbin Murdoch and Vanessa Goodman will also be featured.

Dances for a Small Stage is on Feb. 13 to 15, 8 p.m., at the Ukrainian Centre at 154 East 10th Ave., at Main Street. Doors open at 7 p.m.

Advance tickets are available for $20 at small-stage-30.event.brite.ca.

They're also available at the door on performance night (cash only).
