Lively entertainment is happening all week in Burnaby, including evenings of music and art. Check out these six upcoming events:

BC Chinese Orchestra’s Annual Concert: ‘A New Beginning’

Listen to music performed by the BC Chinese Orchestra, BC Youth Chinese Orchestra and BC Chinese Music Ensemble with conductors Peggy Hua and Tian Ip. Soloists Zhongzi Wu and Kenny Chu perform. The repertoire will include Hong Kong TV theme songs, Sentiments for the Loess Plateau and Hummingbird in Winter.

Sketch Party: Life Drawing Session

The Burnaby Arts Council is hosting a nude life drawing session with short and long poses for artists 19 years old and over. Artists can mingle and purchase beverages during the intermission break. Participants are asked to bring their own materials, though some pencils and sketch paper will be provided.

Latin Jazz with Susana Williams

Award-winning musician and composer Susana Williams will perform her mix of Latin and Anglo pop and rock at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts. Williams’ credits include the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, the Victoria Jazz Festival and the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Active Transportation Walking Tour at Lakefield Drive

The City of Burnaby is building new pedestrian and cycling facilities along Lakefield Drive and Fourth Street and is asking for public input on new public spaces and amenities. Local residents and those who frequent the area are invited to learn more about the project and share feedback at a pop-up event.

Weedbusters: Be a Champion for Native Plants

June 5 is the first day of Environment Week in the City of Burnaby – join the Burnaby Lake Park Association’s “Weedbusters” to learn how to identify and remove invasive English ivy and why it’s important to do so for biodiversity. No experience is necessary; tools training and refreshments will be provided. The event is limited to 10 volunteers – masks are required.

Elgar Strings Orchestra Spring Concerts

Enjoy a selection of string music by Mozart, Brahms and Elgar, performed by the Elgar Strings Orchestra. This family-friendly event will take place outdoors – in case of rain, the concert will be rescheduled.
