Film fans, grab your blankets and get ready to be entertained in the great outdoors.
There are two upcoming outdoor movie opportunities in the city.
The first is with the Burnaby parks and recreation department, which has one more outdoor movie this month as part of their summertime Movies at Civic Square series.
Tomorrow, Thursday, Aug. 25, the featured film will be Billu Barber, a Bollywood film in Hindi with English subtitles, running from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m.
The film is based on a childhood friendship between the local barber and India's most famous movie star. The film is rated G.
The Movies at Civic Square events have been running throughout the summer, rain or shine. Admission is free and organizers recommend bringing a blanket or low chair to watch the films.
The second outdoor flick will be held at Confederation Park on Sunday, Aug. 28 hosted by Chevron's Movie in the Park event.
There will be family activities and displays starting at 5 p.m., along with a BBQ and food concession running till 8 p.m. At 8:30, King Fu Panda 2 will start. Organizers recommend bringing blankets or beach chairs.
The screen will be set up on Grass Field 3 (enter off Beta Avenue.)
Concession proceeds will be in support of Burnaby Community Connections, and the event itself is held in partnership with Chevron, Burnaby Community Connections, Volunteer Burnaby and the Heights Merchant Association.
Just by chance
Collaboration takes on a whole new meaning in an upcoming exhibition at the Burnaby Art Gallery.
Starting Sept. 6, and running until Nov. 13, the gallery will be hosting Chance Operations2 Collaborative Works on Paper by Rhonda Neufeld and Rodney Konopaki.
The exhibit is a unique collection of drawings and prints that showcases the collaborative talents of the artists.
Konopaki and Neufeld, both of whom have taught at Emily Carr University of Art and Design, have been working since 2007 together to produce work that "comments on and pushes the boundaries of 'collaboration.'"
Neufeld is a print media artist who works in lithography, relief, intaglio and screen printing, while Konopaki explores print media, painting and drawing. Chance Operations is a touring exhibition organized by Esplanade Art Gallery and the Moose Jaw Museum and Art Gallery. The Burnaby Art Gallery is the only Metro Vancouver venue for the show.
Singers wanted
The Maple Leaf Singers is adding to its roster of singers. The unique six-
part harmony show chorus has members from all over the Metro Vancouver area and practises weekly in Burnaby.

IN FICTION
An American author inspired by the Winter 2010 Olympic Games has written a novel set in Vancouver and that includes scenes in Burnaby.
Night Undone, a suspense novel by K.S. Brooks, follows former Special Agent Kathrin Night.
The plot was inspired by Brooks' trip to watch some of the Olympic hockey games.
"I had no idea how swept up in the spirit of the event I would become. When I returned home, the effects of it came with me and I decided it was an experience I wanted to write about."
Brooks returned to B.C. to do background research and published the book earlier this month. It is available on Amazon.com.
SUMMER'S END
With our summer season (a. k.a. vacation season) coming to an end here at the NOW, staff will be moving back into their regular beats -including our arts and entertainment reporter and assistant editor Julie MacLellan. MacLellan has spent most of the summer serving as acting editor, but she'll soon be back covering the city's art scene.
