The Shadbolt Centre for the Arts is giving teens a chance to sing and dance their way out of the summer doldrums.
The centre is presenting a new program this summer: Hip Hopera, a multi-disciplinary experience for teens.
For two weeks, teens will have a chance to work under the guidance of professional instructors and artists.
Experts in hip hop and interdisciplinary performance will help the participants come up with a performance theme that combines all their talents and interests.
Every teen taking part will be encouraged to contribute to all aspects of the performance - making the set, creating the music, writing, singing, dancing, acting.
"This is an excellent opportunity for teens to develop new skills and enhance existing talents," a press release about the course notes. "A summer full of activity and creativity brings focus, confidence and achievement. Teenagers will meet new friends and create a performance experience that can be shared by the entire family."
Hip Hopera runs from July 23 to Aug. 2, with sessions from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday in the first week, and Monday to Thursday in the second week.
A final performance will be held on the last day, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 2.
The program costs $377.12 for the nine days.
