When you follow the yellow brick road to the Waterfront Theatre this month, watch out for Burnaby's Meghan Anderssen.

She's be the one with the broom trying to get the red shoes from Dorothy.

Anderssen is starring as the Wicked Witch in the upcoming Carousel Theatre production of The Wizard of Oz.

The classical family musical - based, of course, on the 1939 MGM film - is onstage on Granville Island from Dec. 2 to 31.

Anderssen is a UBC grad and an experienced musical theatre performer - her past credits include Hairspray with the Arts Club Theatre, Bat Boy with Patrick Street Productions, Somewhere in the World at the Charlottetown Festival and Thoroughly Modern Millie and Annie Get Your Gun with Theatre Under the Stars.

She's also a dance instructor and choreographer.

She joins a cast that includes Robyn Wallis as Dorothy, Darren Burkett as the Scarecrow, Mike Stack as the Tin Man and Josue Laboucane as the Cowardly Lion.

Carole Higgins, the artistic and managing director of Carousel Theatre, directs the production, with musical direction by Steven Greenfield and choreography by Melissa Young.

Tickets are $29 regular, $25 for students with ID and seniors, and $15 for youth aged four to 17. Discounts are available for groups of 10 or more.

There are also reduced-rate preview performances, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 3 at 2 p.m.
