Get racing a zucchini

1 or watch one fly down the track at Burnaby Farmers' Market on Saturday, Aug. 17 at 11 a.m. Bring your own racer to the great zucchini races at the market - made from vegetables and able to run on wheels. It's open to all ages, and there will be lots of prizes. The market runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the north parking lot of Burnaby city hall at 4949 Canada Way at Deer Lake Parkway.

2 Get enjoying the graceful moves of figure skaters at the B.C. Summer

Skate at Burnaby 8Rinks, which started Thursday and runs until Sunday. A record 609 entries will compete, including locals and others from as far as Korea, Japan and Poland. The starting time on Friday is 8:45 p.m., Saturday at 9 a.m. and Sunday at 7:45 a.m.

3 Get experiencing a Summer Sunday at Civic Square and enjoy a variety of cultural performances, fun activities and crafts from 2 to 5 p.m. The Summer Sundays are on until Aug. 25. For the weekly schedule, visit www.burnaby.ca.

4 Get studying for only a few more days at the Deer Lake Gallery's Containing Space exhibition, which wraps up on Aug. 17 from noon to 4 p.m. The show includes work by Vancouver-based artists Kirk Loveland and Su Jin Lim.

5 Get swimming at one of the many pools in Burnaby as the summer winds down and back to school shopping draws near. If it's hot and sunny, head out to Central Park, Kensington, McPherson or Robert Burnaby outdoor pools.
