Six students of the Donna Fishwick studio have earned gold medals from the Royal Conservatory of Music for their 2011 exam results. The medals are provincial awards presented to the musicians who obtain the highest marks at each grade level of all examinations held in the province that year.

Angela Hu, a seven-year-old from Coquitlam, earned 99 on her Grade 2 piano exam to top the field. Eight-year-old Vancouver resident Brandon Jong earned 95 at the Grade 3 level for his medal.

Ryan Zhu, another eight-year-old Vancouver pianist, led the way at the Grade 5 level with 95.

Edward Su, a 10-year-old from Burnaby, earned 96 in Grade 6 piano, and Jasper Liang, also a Burnaby resident, earned 97 in Grade 8 piano.

Also with a 97, 14-year-old Colen Liu of Vancouver topped the field in Grade 10 piano.

The six are all members of the Donna Fishwick Piano Ensemble, a top-calibre performance group that has travelled and performed on stages all over the world.

The awards will be presented at a convocation celebration at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at UBC. The ceremony will be held Saturday, April 14.
