There’s nothing like a little live music outdoors on a summer afternoon.
The UniverCity busker series is continuing on Wednesdays through the summer, and the July lineup is looking good.
On July 4, audiences can hear from Kaya Kurz, the Vancouver jazz singer who’s becoming known for her soul, jazz and indie-alt pop sound. (See more about her at www.kayakurz.com.)
On July 12 – which you’ll correctly note is not, in fact, a Wednesday; for this one occasion, it’s on a Thursday – it’s Moonbug, a five-piece local jazz-funk band (www.moonbug-vancouver.com).
On July 18, it’s Stringz Aloud, the Coquitlam-based duo of Don Kellett and Susan Vigneux with their brand of string-based music that runs the gamut from swing to Latin to gypsy jazz to Hawaiian (www.reverbnation.com/stringzaloud).
On July 25, Kurz returns for another performance.
For all the shows, performers are on from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and audience members can take in some music and enjoy a game of ping pong, giant chess or Jenga in the Town Square (next to the Cornerstone building). There’s also a food truck on hand, and the IronDog book truck makes a regular appearance.
