Align Entertainment took home an Audience Choice award from the 2018 Ovation Awards.
The awards, which honour the best musical theatre in the region, were presented Sunday, Jan. 28 at a gala at the Vancouver Academy of Music.
Align Entertainment won Audience Choice honours for Outstanding Remounted Musical, for its production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat - which returned to the Michael J. Fox Theatre in November last year after an initial successful run the previous year.
The theatre company was also nominated for Outstanding Production - Large Theatre honours, an award won by Theatre Under the Stars' The Drowsy Chaperone.
Julio Fuentes, who played Sebastian, was nominated in the Outstanding Supporting Performance – Male category.
Jan Ballard, who designed the wigs and makeup for the production, was up for a Special Award (which recognizes achievements that don’t fall into one of the traditional categories).
Two Burnaby performers were also in the running for their work on other shows: Stefanie Stanley for her performance in Tomo Suru Players’ Cabaret, and Synthia Yusuf for Awkward Stage Productions’ Cry Baby. They were both nominated in the Outstanding Supporting Performance – Female (Small Theatre) category.
