The temperature is dipping and flurries are expected this weekend, so Burnaby residents are turning to indoor activities to keep warm. Thankfully, there are a number of fun things coming up in the city, including three Christmas craft fairs, a flea market and the final weekend of the Dutch masters exhibits at the Burnaby Art Gallery. We're continuing with our popular feature - our staff's Top 5 (Or More) Things To Do This Weekend. Here's our Top 5 list for Nov. 15 to 17.
1. Get crafty at the Burnaby Art Council's Deer Lake Craft Festival, running until Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts at 6450 Deer Lake Ave. This festival features crafts, demos and live entertainment. The event runs from noon to 6 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. For more information, go to www.burnabyartscouncil.org.
2. Get one last look at the Dutch masters exhibitions before they're gone. Storms and Bright Skies: Three Centuries of Dutch Landscapes, and Inner Realms: Dutch Portraits close on Nov. 17, so get down to the Burnaby Art Gallery at 6344 Deer Lake Ave. this weekend if you don't want to miss the exhibits. Storms and Bright Skies: Three Centuries of Dutch Landscapes, organized by the National Gallery of Canada, explores the emergence of the Dutch landscape tradition from the early 17th century into the 18th and 19th centuries, and Inner Realms features Dutch portraits on loan from the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria. The exhibit includes drawings, etchings and oils by Dutch masters such as Rembrandt van Rijn, Adriaen van Ostade, and Cornelis Janssens van Ceulen. The gallery is open Saturday and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m., and admission is by donation (with a suggested donation of $10 for these special exhibits).
3. Get hunting for a bargain at the Maywood Community School giant flea market on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The school is located at 4567 Imperial St. There will be a door prize, a concession stand and lots of bargains. Admission is 50 cents. For more information, call 604-664-8208.
