1 Get voting for your mayor, city councillors and school board on Saturday, Nov. 19. In the 2008 city election, only 23 per cent of registered voters bothered to show up at the polls. Voter turnout in municipal elections tends to be low, so the NOW is recommending you exercise your civic duty and cast your ballot this year. Our-City-Hall/Elections.html. Get snapping with Santa and Fluffy. 2 There are two opportunities on Saturday Nov. 19 to have your pet's picture taken with Santa, and proceeds go to charitable causes. The first is at Burnaby Tisol, 7117 Gilley Ave., from noon to 4 p.m. Proceeds go to the Small Animal Rescue Society, a local volunteer group dedicated to helping abandoned pets, like rabbits and guinea pigs. The second chance is at Garden Works on Lougheed Highway from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The suggested donation is $15, and proceeds go to Pacific Assistance Dogs Society, a Burnaby-based non-profit that trains dogs to help people with disabilities.

3 Get your hips gyrating at the annual District 5040 Annual Rotary Foundation dinner this Saturday, Nov. 19. Elvis tribute artist Steve Elliott will be performing, and there will be food, dancing and a live auction. The event takes place at the firefighters hall, 6515 Bonsor Ave. Attendees are encourage to dress in their finest Hawaiian shirt or muumuu. Tickets are $80, available online at www.rotary5040.org.

online at www.rotary Get shopping for 4 Christmas at the Holy Cross Church Christmas Market at 1450 Delta Ave. The sale is on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Sunday, Nov. 20, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Shop for unique gifts, crafts and delicious food items for your holiday table and gift giving. Nicole at 604-299-4105. 5 Get laughing on Saturday, Nov. 19 at the comedy fundraiser for the Burnaby Fellowship Centre, a local club helping people recovering from drug and alcohol abuse. The Laff Riot Girls are providing the entertainment, and anyone who has yet to see these local comedic legends is missing out. Tickets are $10, and proceeds will help the club keep its doors open. Doors open at 7: 30 p.m., the show starts at 8: 30 p.m. at the Capitol Hill Community Hall, at 361 South Howard Ave.
