1 Get partying at the Firma Block Party on Saturday, May 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 4590 Hastings St. The new development will be hosting a block party featuring a barbecue, outdoor café and live music in the Heights. There's a raft of prizes, including an iPad3, $1,000 cash, 50-inch television, deluxe barbecue, family fun packages and more. Children's activities include free music, theatre, dance and visual arts workshops provided by Artspace, face-painting, crafts, balloon animals, Community Savings vault tours and more.

Get excited for opening 2 day celebrations on Saturday, May 5 at the Burnaby Village Museum. The C.W. Parker Carousel #119 and the B.C. Electric Interurban Tram 1223 are both 100 years old, and you can come celebrate, as there will be balloons, decorations, special entertainment, a sweet treat (for as long as they last) and free public carousel rides. Running from 1 to 4 p.m. at the north end of Confederation Park, this event will introduce people to this competitive and friendly sport. New bowlers are always welcome so give it a try, you just might like it.

Get hiking on Sunday, May 6 for the 4 Burnaby Hospice Society Hike for Hospice Palliative Care 10th anniversary walk, running from noon to 3 p.m. at the South Burnaby Lawn Bowls Club in Central Park. There's both a three-kilometre and a five-kilometre hike available. Registration and barbecue at noon, hike begins at 1 p.m. Registration fee is $25, children under 12 are free. Get riding on Sunday, 5 May 6 for the Burnaby Velodrome Club open house. Come and try one of Canada's fastest-growing sports. Participants will be provided a two-hour session including insurance, loaner track bike and top level coaching, all free of charge. Time slots will be 9 to 11 a.m., 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and 2 to 4 p.m. Please email jeremy@burnaby velodrome.ca to secure a slot.

Get cheering for the Burnaby Jr. 6 Lakers as they play their second game of the young season on Sunday, May 6 at 5 p.m. against the Victoria Shamrocks at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre. The Jr. Lakers are led by coach John Wilson and first-year player Tyler Buchan, who has a good lacrosse future in front of him. Tickets are available at the door.
