The wildlife of the Sunshine Coast is the inspiration behind a new exhibition at Deer Lake Gallery.
The Burnaby Arts Council’s gallery is hosting Wolf and Corvus Corax, an exhibition of work by sculptor Lee Roberts, from July 4 to July 25.
An opening reception is set for July 4 from 2 to 4 p.m.
Roberts is a British-born artist who lives in Roberts Creek on the Sunshine Coast, and his work is inspired by his environment and nature’s creatures who share the coastline.
His sculptures use a range of mostly recycled meterials, including rebar tie-wire, recycled rubber inner tubes, reclaimed oak flooring, repurposed bird skulls, oil paint, Indian ink and cotton paper.
“Roberts’ sculptures weave whimsical narratives of the human and animal condition in the form of minimalist sculpture,” a press release explains. “Within Roberts’ work, animal and human figures are connected by a tangle of steel wire.”
Roberts works from his studio property in Roberts Creek, alongside his wife and other collaborative artists.
See www.leerobertsart.com for more about his work.
Deer Lake Gallery is at 6584 Deer Lake Ave. It’s open Tuesday to Saturday noon to 4 p.m., and admission is free. See www.burnabyartscouncil.org for more details.
