Café La Foret's signature black waffles will soon be available in Coquitlam. The popular Burnaby café and bakery has teased a location on Austin Avenue will be opening in the spring.

A Burnaby café renowned for its ambience and pastries that are as much a delight for the eyes as the belly is getting ready to open a new location in Coquitlam.

La Foret Bakery and Café has teased its expansion east with a post on social media that says its new spot will be ready to open sometime in the spring.

And while the post doesn’t specifically say where the café will be located, it does say it will be somewhere on Austin Avenue.

Construction is currently going on at the site.

La Foret opened a second location in Burnaby last spring, just an 11-minute walk from its flagship café on Jubilee Avenue in the Metrotown area.

Since the original café opened in 2017 in a refurbished industrial garage, its spacious interior, brightened by a huge roll-up door and garden decorations of trees, plants and a feature wall of green vines, has become a popular destination for brunch, snacks like its signature black waffles coloured by squid ink and even sandwiches as well as pastas.

It even offers its own ice cream in flavours like blueberry New York cheesecake and its own espresso La Foret blend.

The café’s history hasn’t always been a sweet confection though.

In 2022 a former head baker that was fired after an accusation of sexual harassment was awarded $40,600 by B.C. Supreme Court in a wrongful dismissal lawsuit.

The decision was upheld by the B.C. Court of Appeal last year.
