A Burnaby-based business is among 11 B.C. employers who recently received living wage certification from a B.C. non-profit.
Bartec Fire Safety Systems, based on Government Street just east of Burnaby Lake, joins a total of 157 employers, representing over 21,600 workers, throughout B.C. that have gained the designation from the B.C.-based Living Wage for Families Campaign.
The certification is a voluntary commitment to pay employees a living wage, which varies throughout the province – in Metro Vancouver, that wage is $19.50 per hour, while in Prince George it’s as low as $14.03 per hour.
The living wage is the hourly amount a family needs to cover basic expenses, based on a dual-income family of four, including two children. The Living Wage for Families Campaign says that is the most common family unit in B.C.
