The City of Burnaby has moved forward with its plan to expand its Business Watch program - a pilot project in North Burnaby - to the southwest area of the city.

The southwest pilot project runs for six months and started in December, according to the community policing committee.

The committee presented its work plan for 2012 for Monday night's council meeting.

It includes plans to focus on public awareness this year. The committee is also considering introducing a community safety officer position in Burnaby.

Other initiatives include addressing sextrade issues, supporting the reduction of property crime, and supporting the Burnaby RCMP as it starts crime free hotel/motel and crime free self-storage programs.
