Workshops at the Tommy Douglas branch at 7311 Kingsway take place on July 16, Aug. 13 and Sept. 17.

Workshops at the McGill branch at 4595 Albert St. take place on July 17, Aug. 14, and Sept. 18.

And workshops are also being held at the Bob Prittie Metrotown branch at 6100 Willingdon Ave. on July 18, Aug. 15 and Sept. 19. Each workshop runs from 2 to 4 p.m.

HIGH TEA DIM SUM

The Burnaby Board of Trade's Pacific Gateway committee invites board members to a high tea with dim sum at the Fortune House Seafood restaurant on July 25.

The group is meeting to build relationships between the board and the city's Asian business community, according to the board's website.

The tea takes place from 3 to 4: 30 p.m. The cost is $20.

LOCAL HELP

The Community Savings Credit Union, which has a branch in the Heights, received an award from DIVERSEcity this spring for celebrating cultural diversity in the workplace.

Out of the union's more than 80 employees, nearly 40 per cent speak a second language including Punjabi, Hindi, Fijian, Cantonese, Mandarin, Spanish, French, Portuguese and German, according to a release from the credit union.

The credit union also volunteers at local cultural events and celebrates cultural events at its branches.

The credit union also recently donated $5,000 to the Protein for People Project, which helps to provide protein for children of families in need.

The credit union is based in Surrey, with six branches throughout the Lower Mainland and Victoria.

CELEBRATION

The Metrotown Mazda dealership at 5775 Kingsway is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.

The dealership, which has been involved in the Metrotown community for the past two decades, also won the 2012 Dealer of Distinction and President's Club awards from Mazda Canada, according to an email from general manager Sean Kumagai.
