G&F gets nod from trade board

Annual Burnaby business excellence awards include induction of G&F Group

The Burnaby Board of Trade held its 13th annual Burnaby Business Excellence Awards luncheon on Wednesday at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown.

This year's inductee into the business hall of fame is G&F Financial Group, which first opened in Burnaby 75 years ago, according to a press release from the board.

Burnaby Mayor Derek Corrigan was scheduled to present the induction, the release stated.

"G&F has been serving the Lower Mainland and Burnaby since 1936," said Paul Holden, the board's president and chief executive officer, in the release. "Their commitment to customer service, business excellence and to this community as a whole has been remarkable and clearly the key to their success as one of Burnaby's premier financial institutions."

The group is a member-owned financial institution with more than 26,000 members, according to the release. The group has two branches in Burnaby and 12 throughout the Lower Mainland.

"The history of our credit union is characterized by the positive partnerships we've been building since we first opened our doors in Burnaby more than 75 years ago," said Bill Kiss, co-CEO of G&F Financial Group, in the release.

"We're thankful for the support we've been given by the people of Burnaby and look forward to a future of continued growth with our Burnaby members and partners," added Jeff Shewfelt, co-CEO of G&F Financial Group.

The finalists for all the Burnaby Business Excellence Awards categories were announced at the luncheon on Oct. 10. To see the full list of nominees, go to www.burnabynow. com.
