Good work: ABC Recycling staff enjoy a barbecue lunch at a wrap-up event for the company’s Donor of Hope campaign, raising money for neonatal intensive care at B.C. Women’s Hospital.

Burnaby’s own ABC Recycling recently wrapped up its month-long campaign in support of B.C. Women’s Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) – adding an additional $6,000 to the $435,000 it has already raised for the unit.

Dubbed the Donor of Hope campaign, between April and May, folks from the community and industry were encouraged to donate the proceeds from recycled scrap metal to ABC Recycling’s fundraiser. The campaign was started by CEO David Yochlowitz, who has personal experience with the NICU at B.C. Women’s Hospital.

Yochlowitz’s daughter Chloe was born 10 weeks early and spent five weeks at the hospital. Thanks to the care she received, Chloe is a healthy and active kid, KarenBichin, community relations manager at ABC Recycling, wrote in an email.

On May 12, ABC Recycling held a barbecue with the help of Burnaby firefighters to celebrate the end of this year’s fundraiser. The company has about $260,000 left to raise before it hits its $700,000 goal.
