B.C.’s premier was in Burnaby Friday to celebrate the board of trade’s inaugural women’s business leadership luncheon.
The Burnaby native talked gender roles and the continued struggle many women face while working in the public and private sectors. One example she offered was of Donald Trump and his run for the Republican presidential nomination. She said that if Trump was a woman, ‘she’ would never had made it as far as he has in the race.
Clark wrapped up her speech with a question-and-answer period, but not before encouraging guests to help “end the silent gender bias that still exists,” in the job market today.
The lunchtime event was a soft launch for the board of trade’s new women’s group. The working group, which is still in its infancy, will support women in leadership roles by fostering important discussions, facilitating connections and advancing advocacy positions.
Attendees were asked to fill out a survey regarding women in business and how the board of trade could help support them.
The survey is also available online at tinyurl.com/womeninbizsurvey.
