If you think you bought a Lotto Max ticket sometime in late October of last year but never bothered to check it, you may want to scrounge around the house or your old pants to find it.
It could be worth a cool million dollars.
On Wednesday, the B.C. Lottery Corporation sent out a press release noting a $1 million Lotto Max ticket bought in Burnaby for the Oct. 30, 2015 draw wasn’t claimed.
The ticketmatched 7/7 numbers for a $1 million Maxmillions prize.
The lottery corporation didn’t say where specifically it was bought.
BCLC is reminding players to check their “pockets, drawers and secret hiding places” to see if they have the $1 million ticket. Winners have one year from the draw date printed on the ticket to claim their prize.
It’s not unprecedented for some lottery winners to hold on to their winning ticket for some time before coming forward.
It took more than a year-and-a-half for the winners of a $50-million Lotto Max jackpot to be revealed.
In that case, there was a legal dispute over the ownership of the ticket, which was purchased in Langley.
According to BCLC, only four major prizes have gone unclaimed in B.C. since 2006, totaling $534,572.70. All four prizes matched 5/6+ numbers, but not the grand prize. The unclaimed prizes were $99,318.50 in 2006, $104,534.60 in 2008, $113,807 in 2009 and $219,912.60 in 2016. The lottery corporation said no top prize in B.C. has ever gone unclaimed.
