Burnaby council approved $1.4 million from capital reserves to finance 10 parks, recreation and cultural services projects for 2013.

At the March 18 meeting, council approved $1,496,320, including HST, to use for projects for the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, Burnaby Village Museum and parks across the city.

The Shadbolt will receive $100,000 to purchase equipment such as pottery wheels, pianos, safety equipment, program tents, stools, storage carts and print storage units.

The Burnaby Village Museum is set to get $245,000 for several projects such as various exterior and interior building upgrades, and exhibit upgrades as well.

There's $256,000 slated for the purchase of mowers, pickup trucks, a small truck-ster, a food services van and a cargo van to improve service delivery, according to the staff report.

Confederation, Westbridge and Central parks will get a share of $185,000 to renovate their tennis courts.

Suncrest Park and other wading pools and spray parks have $175,000 budgeted for improvements and upgrades for life cycle replacement and to meet Fraser Health regulations.

The 25-year-old playground at Forest Grove Park is getting replaced, and accessibility improvements at the site has $175,000 budgeted.

Deer Lake Park will have a boardwalk renewal, additions, trail construction and safety upgrades to the lake trails for $125,000.

Taylor, Montecito and Stride school parks will share $75,000 for resurfacing, fencing and other major repairs for its basketball, ball hockey and sports courts.

There are sufficient capital reserves for the projects, according to the staff report.
