Two drivers failed to notice this RCMP vehicle at the intersection of Ridgelawn Drive and Springer Avenue. They ran the stop sign in front of the Mountie and then ran another further down Springer, racking up $334 in tickets and six penalty points each.

Two Burnaby drivers racked up $334 in tickets and six driver penalty points each after running two stop signs in a row Wednesday – right in front of a traffic cop.

“I can’t be more visible than that, honestly,” said Const. Denis Arseneault, the Mountie who caught the drivers.

Arseneault was set up at Ridgelawn Drive and Springer Avenue in plain view, according to Burnaby RCMP.

He watched one driver blow the stop sign and turn right onto Springer.

When Arsenault followed the vehicle to pull it over, he saw it ignore another stop sign at Broadway too.

Arseneault issued the six points and two tickets for failing to obey a stop sign, only to see another driver do the same thing a short time later.

Burnaby RCMP is now urging drivers to pay attention to traffic control devices, especially with daylight getting shorter and driving conditions deteriorating with rain and wet roads.

This stretch of Springer had only recently re-opened to traffic due to construction from the FortisBC project upgrading the area's gas lines.
