24-hour chicken joint in Burnaby still closed after fire

The Brentwood Church's Chicken at 4267 Lougheed Hwy. remains closed pending a health inspection after a fire Wednesday night.

Church's Chicken in Burnaby's Brentwood area has been closed since a fire Wednesday evening and won't reopen until getting the go-ahead from a Fraser Health inspector.

Fire crews were called to the 24-hour restaurant at 4267 Lougheed Hwy. at 8:28 p.m. Wednesday for a building fire, according to acting assistant fire Chief Rick Crema.

On arrival, firefighters saw smoke coming out of the building, according to Crema.

In the end, he said the fire was mainly contained to the kitchen's vent system, but firefighters did go up on the roof to make sure it hadn't spread to any other part of the structure.

Church's Chicken was still closed Friday afternoon.

A Fraser Health closure notice was posted on the front door, saying the restaurant had been closed because of fire and smoke damage.

The notice ordered the restaurant not to open again until a Fraser Health inspection.
