39-storey Burnaby mega-tower eyed as Amazing Brentwood expands (photos)

A total of 13 towers are planned

A public hearing on June 29 will have Burnaby council hearing from the public about yet another tower proposed on the site of the Amazing Brentwood mall.

The purpose of the subject rezoning application is to obtain approval for the detailed design and construction of tower six in Phase 2 of the mall’s master plan and, if approved, would be building on the west edge of the property, along Willingdon Avenue. The proposed development plan, by Shape Properties, is for a single 39-storey apartment tower, inclusive of a 4-storey rental podium with commercial space.

A total of 443 apartment units are proposed, comprised of 369 market strata units, 21 market rental units utilizing C3 District Density, and 53 non-market rental units in accordance with the Rental Use Zoning Policy.

“The development includes a relatively high proportion of larger, family-sized units with a generous amenity package including meeting rooms, fitness centre, guest suite, and an outdoor patio, reads a city staff report.

More than 13,000 square feet of amenity space is proposed.

“Communal facilities for strata residents include an amenity lobby, as well as a fitness facility, media and games room, business/study centre, kitchen and dining area, lounge, and a guest suite located on level 5. The adjoining outdoor amenity area includes outdoor seating, children's play, vegetable garden, dining area and extensive rooftop landscaping.”

The Amazing Brentwood hit a milestone recently when a skybridge opened, connecting the new mall expansion with the older mall section that includes the new Tables food court.

The Amazing Brentwood has three residential towers built, but will eventually have 13 total on the 28-acre property at Lougheed and Willingdon. As part of phase one, 1.45 million square feet of retail space has been built.

On the north side of the skybridge is Tables, a 780-seat food. The north side also includes the older wing of the mall that includes London Drugs. Below are such new businesses as Nike and Adidas.

The south side is all completely new construction, featuring Cineplex’s new five-screen VIP movie theatre and its Rec Room entertainment complex that includes everything from video games to pool tables to virtual reality.

There are lifestyle features like a fitness facility, brow bar and barbershop.

Then if you go outside, you’ll find the huge outdoor plaza that includes shops such as the new Sephora that just opened, a big Starbucks, plus such restaurants as La Taqueria and Gram pancakes.
