FortisBC is starting gas line construction at two new locations in Burnaby next week, including:
- Broadway, between Phillips Place and Arden Avenue, on Monday, March 18. The road will be closed to traffic, with local access maintained.
- Springer Avenue, between Lougheed Highway and Halifax Street, by Wednesday, March 20. Southbound lanes will be closed on Springer Avenue during construction. There will also be lane closures on Lougheed Highway.
“These closures are to give our crews the space they need to work safely and as quickly as possible,” said a FortisBC news release. “Construction is expected to finish in April at both these locations.”
Construction also continues on Lougheed Highway between the Kensington Avenue overpass and Bainbridge Avenue, and on Madison Avenue between Halifax Street and Lougheed Highway.
Construction started on Como Lake Avenue in Coquitlam this week, at the North Road intersection and between Blue Mountain and Porter streets. Lanes are open, but there will be traffic delays so plan ahead and give yourself extra time to get where you’re going.
Periodic lane closures to locate underground utilities such as water lines are ongoing at several locations in Burnaby and Coquitlam. This work is in preparation for construction, and is currently happening on Broadway, between Production and Gaglardi ways, in Burnaby and along Como Lake Avenue in Coquitlam.
Utility locate work generally takes place outside of peak traffic periods, normally between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on weekdays, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends in Coquitlam, and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends in Burnaby. There may be some instances where work is permitted outside these hours.
