Hundreds came out to celebrate the fifth annual Africa Musical and Cultural Festival in Burnaby on Saturday, Aug. 9.
"It was way better than what we've done before," said festival spokesperson Osakue Ukponrefe. "This time we involved a lot of African countries. That's why we had musicians from a lot of parts of Africa."
The performers included Ezra Kwizera, a reggae artist and producer from Rwanda who now lives in B.C.; African Rhymes from Kenya; and Ezeadi Onukwulu, an Afro reggae performer originally from Rwanda. There were also dancers, storytellers, a market place and food.
The festival started in New Westminster five years ago, and it has been growing ever since. Ukponrefe estimated 800 people came out in waves throughout the day.
