The Alzheimer Society of B.C. is encouraging Burnaby residents to support people with by taking part in the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s.

Les Bullis is hoping other Burnaby residents will take part in an Alzheimer’s fundraiser in memory of his wife Dorothy passed away recently with dementia.

After Dorothy’s diagnosis, Les served as her caretaker. Together they navigated the journey of the neurodegenerative disease with support and education from the Alzheimer Society of B.C. Les credits the society with giving him the skills and confidence to respond to challenging situations that arose during their time together.

The Burnaby couple’s story is what led to them being the dedicated honorees for the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s, the society’s largest fundraiser. For this year’s walk, participants are encouraged to walk their own way throughout May, before joining an online celebration on Sunday, May 30. While participants are encouraged to participate in honour of people in their own lives who have been affected by dementia, they can also walk for Les and Dorothy Bullis.

In a release from the Alzheimer Society of B.C., funds raised during the walk will help support the society’s programs and services.

“No matter where or when they walk (in accordance with current public health orders), participants will make a difference in the lives of people living with dementia and their caregivers,” the release states.

To register for the Walk, participants can visit the society’s website, choose their local community and create a fundraising page to share with friends and family.
