A 21-year-old Burnaby man was arrested and charged in connection with a break-in and sexual assault that occurred on Nov. 15.
A house in northwest Burnaby was broken into, and a woman in the home woke to find a man in her bedroom. The man told the woman he had a weapon and then sexually assaulted her, according to a press release from the Burnaby RCMP.
Kitriel Javier Aquino was identified and arrested on Jan. 3.
"Although the victim did not appear to know the accused, the investigation would indicate that this was a targeted incident," Cpl. Steve Hoivik of the Burnaby RCMP's serious crime unit stated in the release. "Our team worked diligently from the time of the offence to identify the accused and gather enough evidence to help ensure he is held accountable for the alleged crimes. Our goal is to keep the public safe."
Aquino has been charged with sexual assault with a weapon, break and enter with intent, and wearing a disguise with intent, the release stated. He has been remanded into custody.
