The Burnaby Public Library and the Burnaby Gogos are teaming up to host author Paola Gianturco for a talk on her new book Grandmother Power: A Global Phenomenon on Monday. The Burnaby Gogos are one of many groups of grandmothers dedicated to helping African grandmothers caring for children orphaned by AIDS.
"She's worth hearing," said Hannah Diamond, spokesperson for the Burnaby Gogos. "She has been on The Oprah Winfrey Show, she's spoken at the United Nations, and when she leaves here, she's presenting to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. ... She really is something. We're very lucky to have here."
Gianturco's new book features more than 100 grandmothers from around the globe dedicated to making the world a better place. The talk is on Monday, Oct. 1 at 1 p.m. at the Confederation Seniors' Centre. All author royalties from the book will be donated to the Stephen Lewis Foundation for projects that help the African grandmothers. Books will be available at the talk.
