Back to school
Lougheed Town Centre is running the #LougheedB2School Twitter and Facebook contest until this Friday. Those who "like" the shopping centre on Facebook are entered to possibly win a $100 gift card from the centre.
For the Twitter contest, those interested in entering need to take a photo of one of the contest posters at the mall, follow @LTCShopping on Twitter and tweet the centre the photo with the hashtag #LougheedB2School. Melodic mixer
Burnaby Board of Trade members, the pipes, the pipes are calling.
The board is holding a members' mixer at the new Simon Fraser University Theatre on Wednesday, Sept. 18 from 5 to 7 p.m., with a special twist.
The mixer will include a performance from the SFU Pipe Band, as well as an opportunity to meet the pipers and hold the pipes or beat the drums, according to the board's website. There will also be cocktails and appetizers, door prizes and networking opportunities. All those attending will also receive complimentary tickets to the Vancouver International Film Festival screenings at the theatre in October.

Job fair at Metrotown
Looking for a job for the holidays? Metropolis at Metrotown is holding a retail job fair on Saturday, Sept. 28.
The job fair takes place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the atrium and grand courts.
There will be more than 25 retailers filling hundreds of positions for the holiday season, according to the shopping centre's website.
Employers are hiring for part-time, full-time, entry-level and managerial positions. Candidates should bring several resumés and a list of the retailers they are interested in. Some retailers interview on the spot, so candidates should dress appropriately for a job interview and be prepared.

Nicholas Sparks at Metrotown
Chapters at Metropolis at Metrotown is the place to be for fans of The Notebook next month.
Nicholas Sparks, bestselling author of Safe Haven, The Lucky One and The Notebook will be signing copies of his newest novel, The Longest Ride, on Oct. 2 from 7 to 9 p.m. Those interested in attending should show up early, as space will be available on a firstcome, first-served basis, according to the Chapters website. Attendees need to bring a copy of The Longest Ride with proof of purchase from Indigo, Chapters or Coles. Metrotown also hosting the NBA
Nicholas Sparks isn't the only big name appearing at the shopping centre this fall - the NBA Big Tour is coming to Metropolis at Metrotown on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. NBA players such as Harrison Barnes of the Golden State Warriors and Bucket Blakes of the Harlem Globetrotters, as well as the Toronto Raptors' mascot, The Raptor, will be on hand.
There will also be contests, prizes, a Foot Locker fan makeover, wheelchair basketball demonstrations, the Sprite Slam Dunk Showdown, games and more. The event is being held in the grand court.
