The bait car program has expanded in the province to include property left inside vehicles, according to a press release from the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia.
"Bait vehicles throughout B.C. have been upgraded with the latest audio and video technology, to address the issue of theft from vehicles," the release stated. "Bait property will look no different than any other property thieves may find in vehicles and may range from tool boxes to a gym bag. The difference is it can be tracked and monitored by police."
The corporation made the announcement at the end of January, in advance of Auto Crime Enforcement Month, which is February.
The bait car program is run by the Integrated Municipal Provincial Auto Crime Team.
Since the program began in 2003, auto theft in the province has decreased by 73 per cent, according to the release.
