Looking to help improve safety in your neighbourhood? Want a way to bring neighbours closer together?
The Burnaby RCMP’s crime prevention unit is holding a Block Watch training session on Sept. 10, and it’s open to all Burnaby residents.
Benefits of joining Block Watch include reduced criminal activity in neighbourhoods, reduced fear through education, and tips and tricks to recognize suspicious activity. Some insurance companies even offer discounts to homeowners who participate in the program, according to a media release from Burnaby RCMP.
The training session in September will cover several topics, including home security, crime prevention, emergency reporting, observation skills and more, according to the release.
Anyone interested in attending the Block Watch training session must register with the crime prevention unit by Aug. 17 and complete an application and criminal record check by Friday, Aug. 20. To register, contact the crime prevention unit at 604-294-7859 or email [email protected].
