It's the second weekend of 2013 so once you're done making - and disregarding - your New Year's resolutions, you can get out and enjoy some new things to do in Burnaby.

We're continuing with our popular feature - our staff's Top 5 (Or More) Things To Do This Weekend, and this week, there's a good mix of activities in the city.

1 Get philosophical on Friday, Jan. 11 for the SFU Philosophers' Café, being held at 7 p.m. at the McGill branch of the Burnaby Public Library at 4595 Albert St.

Join moderator Kevin Lam, lecturer in the department of biological sciences at SFU for an exhilarating Friday evening discussion. Everyone is welcome.

Registration and experience not required. Admission is free.

2Get recycling on Sunday, Jan. 13 for the bottle and penny drive, organized by the Small Animal Rescue Society of B.C., to be held at the bottle depot at 6893 East Hastings St.

Volunteers are collecting returnable bottles and cans, pennies or other loose change and Canadian Tire money.

All proceeds go towards caring for animals.

mals. 3 Get eating at one of the Heights' newest eateries.

Yo Sushi, located at 4266 Hastings St., next to Anton's Pasta, has just opened and if you eat at the Japanese restaurant during the month of January, you will be entered into a contest to win prizes ranging from a 16GB Ipad 4 to a $100 Best Buy gift certificate to a $50 Yo Sushi gift card.

The drawing takes place on Saturday, Feb. 2 so get in, have a great meal and you may even win a prize next month.

For more info, call Yo Sushi at 604299-2500.

4 Get shopping at the Metrotown Zellers at

4545 Central Blvd. as it continues with its store closing sale. Discounts between 40 and 70 per cent are available on most items in the store as it closes down. Store fixtures will also be on sale.

The property will be renovated and is scheduled to be turned into a Target department store in the future.

5Get entering the Best of Burnaby 2013 contest, which is put on by the Burnaby NOW.

Vote in at least 15 categories for your chance to win a $2,000 shopping spree, courtesy of Metropolis at Metrotown, Lougheed Town Centre and Brentwood Town Centre.

Vote for your favourite stores, services, entertainers, restaurants and much more.

Ballots are in the paper and need to be submitted by Friday, Feb. 1 to be eligible for the grand prize.
