A group of anti-pipeline Burnaby residents hit their fundraising target to cover half their legal fees for the National Energy Board hearings.

Burnaby Residents Opposing Kinder Morgan Expansion launched a campaign in mid-January to raise $10,000 to pay for half of the $20,000 in legal fees for their lawyer, Neil Chantler.

“Whenever we ask for support, we get support - at the town halls, from the city of Burnaby,” said BROKE spokesperson Karl Perrin. “It’s like nobody wants this pipeline, and they really appreciate that we’ve been around for three years to stop this pipeline.”

BROKE collected the money through an online fundraising site and from participants at the Jan. 23 rally outside the NEB hearings. One man walked up to the some BROKE members milling about outside the Delta Burnaby Hotel and Conference Centre and handed them 10 crisp $100 bills, for a cash donation totalling $1,000.
