Building permits up in 2012

The City of Burnaby has issued 780 building permits thus far for 2012, according to a staff report by Lou Pelletier, acting director of Burnaby's planning and building department.

The City of Burnaby has issued 780 building permits thus far for 2012, according to a staff report by Lou Pelletier, acting director of Burnaby's planning and building department.

The report, which was issued at the end of May, states that 692 permits were issued in 2011, and 725 were issued in 2010.

But the permits have brought in slightly less this year than in the past two - $203 million as of May 31, 2012. The total value of permits in 2011 was $210 million, and in 2010 was $206 million.

The majority of commercial building permits - 204 - were for alterations and repairs, and the majority of industrial building permits - 100 - were also for alterations and repairs.

In May, 152 permits were issued, bringing in $34.6 million - 75 of those were for alterations and repairs.
