Motorists, pedestrians and cyclists are being warned of lane closures on the Barnet Highway.
The City of Burnaby says, effective immediately, one lane in each direction will be closed intermittently on the 7A stretch just east of Bayview Drive.
A release says the closure is a result of a request by Trans Mountain filing an application to reduce loading on the road and allow for enhanced monitoring of road conditions as part of tunnel drilling work in the vicinity.
Residents should expect long delays and are encouraged to use alternative routes during peak rush hours.
For two-wheel commuters, Barnet Highway bike lanes are set to stay open at all times.
The immediate closures are as follows:
Eastbound lanes
- One lane open at all times
- One lane occasionally closed between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to access monitoring equipment
Westbound lanes
- One lane open at all times
- One lane will be closed from 9 a.m. to 5 a.m. (20 hours)
- Both lanes will be open during the morning rush hour
