Burnaby approves budget, property tax increase

Burnaby city council approved the $261.5-million budget Monday evening, with a property tax increase of 1.5 per cent for 2018. For the average homeowner, the total municipal property tax levy will be approximately $1,735 in 2018, up $25.59 from 2017.

Burnaby city council approved the $261.5-million budget Monday evening, with a property tax increase of 1.5 per cent for 2018.

For the average homeowner, the total municipal property tax levy will be approximately $1,735 in 2018, up $25.59 from 2017. But next year, property taxes are expected to jump by 3 per cent.

Council also approved some expensive capital projects, including information technology programs ($3.7 million), and extensive road rehabilitation ($1.3 million).
