A comedy show filmed right here in Burnaby is about to go global.

Corus Entertainment's Nelvana Enterpreises and Thunderbird Films announced this week that they have sold the live-action series Mr. Young - currently the top-rated show on YTV - to Disney XD channels in the U.S. and around the world.

Disney XD territories include the U.K., Spain, Portugal, Italy, the Netherlands, central and eastern Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

The series is expected to premiere in most territories this year.

Here in Canada, the show is currently midway through airing the first season of 26 episodes; the second season of 26 episodes are currently being filmed.

The show was featured in a recent Burnaby NOW story about a young teen who was granted a wish through the Make-A-Wish Foundation and spent the day on the set of the show, acting as an extra for a scene.

Filmed on a set in South Burnaby off Byrne Road, Mr. Young starts Brendan Meyer as Adam Young, a whiz-kid-turned-teen genius who went to university at the age of nine and has returned to a high school as a teacher.

Meyer, who is originally from Alberta, lives in New Westminster with his family during filming.

The show also features young actors Gig Morton as his best friend, Matreya Fedor as the girl he has a crush on, and Kurt Ostlund as the class bully.

The series was created by Dan Signer, who also created and is showrunner on the smash hit Disney Channel series A.N.T. Farm, and was previously senior writer/producer on The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and The Suite Life on Deck. Mr. Young premiered in Canada in March on YTV and quickly become one of the network's top-rated series.

"We are thrilled to be on Disney XD," said Michael Shepard, president of Thunderbird Films in a press release Wednesday. "The show is beyond hilarious and we must point to the show's creator, Dan Signer, who is a real life creative genius!"
