A local advocacy group is calling on Burnaby cyclists to come together to amplify their voices.
HUB Burnaby is hosting two forums for bicycle commuters. The first will be hosted at the McGill branch of the Burnaby Public Library on Monday, June 18 at 7 p.m. A second forum is planned for 7 p.m. on July 5 at the library’s Bob Prittie branch.
The group’s committee chair, Cathy Griffin, said there are many issues affecting cyclists that go overlooked by the City of Burnaby. She wants more cyclists to contact city staff with requests for better infrastructure, including protected bike lanes.
“People don't tend to do a lot of stuff until something is sort of hitting them in the face,” she said.
The forums come at a critical time, she said, as the municipality works on the second phase of its Transportation Plan Update.
Griffin said she wants the city to set concrete targets to increase the number of people commuting by bike in Burnaby and to build more bike lanes.
She said the forums are open to all cyclists who want to learn more about the issues.
