The Burnaby Board of Trade's pledge for a sustainable community initiative will officially kickoff in May.

The board of trade is hosting its sustainability and business forum on May 1 at the Delta Burnaby Hotel and Conference Centre, where its sustainable community initiative will launch, according to a media release.

Burnaby Mayor Derek Corrigan is expected to provide an introduction speech and welcome, and he will discuss the city's upcoming environmental sustainability strategy.

"We're also thrilled to finally have the official launch for our pledge program," said Paul Holden, board president and CEO, in a media release. "Since our soft launch late last year, we have already had over 70 businesses from across the Lower Mainland take the pledge, and we know this program has barely begun to reach its full potential."

Other speakers include Vancity CEO Tamara Vrooman and Coro Strandberg - a sustainability expert - who will discuss leadership and profitability in a sustainable business.

The forum is at the Delta Burnaby Hotel from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information or to register, visit bbot.ca.
