A Burnaby business was duped by a fraudster posing as someone from BC Hydro, according to local RCMP.
“An employee received a call and made a payment for a non-existent bill,” according to Burnaby RCMP in a tweet on the local detachment’s Twitter account.
Police are warning all businesses and residents to be aware of calls from such utilities as BC Hydro, Telus, FortisBC, etc “stating your service will be cut off unless you pay a bill.”
Police say if you do get a call, “hang up, call the utility company directly and report it to police.”
