Burnaby council extends ATM pilot project

The city's ATM pilot project is being extended until November so that the financial provider, G&F Financial Group, can gather a full year of information on the feasibility of the project.

The city's ATM pilot project is being extended until November so that the financial provider, G&F Financial Group, can gather a full year of information on the feasibility of the project.

The project was initially slated to run from last December until the end of May.

Burnaby council approved plans for the extension at the July 16 council meeting.

Three ATMs were installed in city facilities, one each at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, city hall, and Bonsor Recreation Centre, last winter.

During the first six months, Bonsor had 1,050 transactions, city hall had 608 and Shadbolt had 642, according to a report from the city's director of finance, Denise Jorgenson.

G&F will submit a feasibility report after the program is completed, and the city will decide whether to remove the ATMs, keep them in place for a longer period, or expand the service to other city facilities.
