Burnaby COVID-19 cases actually dropped during latest seven-day period

Burnaby recorded more cases than Surrey the week prior from July 11 to 17

After a large jump in COVID-19 cases during the last reporting period, Burnaby has seen a steady drop.

According to the latest Geographic Distribution of COVID-19 by Local Health Area of Case Residence, the city saw 14 new infections from July 18 to 24, 2021.

The previous report from July 11 to 17, 2021, showed Burnaby recorded more cases than Surrey (24) with 27. Surrey has been a major hot spot in B.C. throughout the pandemic.

The data is released by the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC).

Infections continue to rise rapidly in the province, with health officials announcing yesterday (July 28) there had been 185 new cases.

Also yesterday, Henry announced new health restrictions are set to go into effect in the Central Okanagan in B.C.'s Interior Health region because that area is a hot spot for COVID-19 transmission.

The Interior Health region placed a regional mandatory mask order for all public indoor spaces for the Central Okanagan communities of Peachland, West Kelowna, Kelowna and Lake Country, as well as the Westbank First Nation lands, and the electoral districts within the Central Okanagan Regional District.
