The driver of a black Dodge Charger was lucky to be alive after plowing into a city bus on Boundary Road near Kitchener Street early Friday morning.

The out-of-service bus was facing south on Boundary at about 1:15 a.m., making a left turn onto Kitchener when the right rear corner was struck by the Charger traveling northbound, according to Translink spokesperson Chris Bryan.

“The car was squashed, and there was a fair bit of damage to the bus considering that it’s a big, huge vehicle,” he said.

The driver of the car was taken to Vancouver General with a suspected broken shoulder, Bryan said, while the operator of the bus was treated at the scene and released.

The bus was then driven back to the yard.

Burnaby RCMP is investigating the crash.
